"Zatarain’s was founded by Emile A. Zatarain, Sr. In 1889, he obtained the company’s first product trademark and started to market root beer. Shortly after, he began to produce mustards, pickled vegetables, and extracts. As the business grew, so did the demand for a broader range of products. Through our expertise in blending spices, the company established a reputation for making the most authentic New Orleans–Style food. Today, Zatarain’s manufactures over 200 varieties of products from Rice Dinner Mixes, Ready-to-Serve Complete Meals, Spices & Seasonings, to Fish Fries, Seafood Boil and other products based on authentic New Orleans Style foods and seafood preparations." - Zatarain's
Today Zatarain's sponsored a special brunch at the House of Blues-Chicago featuring their signature Jambalaya rice mix. Everyone that attended had the opportunity to try Zatarain's Jambalaya with their customizable Jambalaya station.
Hungry patrons got to create their own jambalaya using chicken, shrimp, crawfish tails, and/or andouille sausage, along with onions, tomatoes, scallions, bell peppers and jalapenos. Whatever was chosen, it was all very delicious! Aside from the jambalaya station, the brunch included:
- omelette station
- carving station
- mimosa bar
- massive brunch buffet of salads, breakfast fare and soulfood
- dessert nook
The entire place was alive - great food, amazing music, a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon! The crowd was completely engaged the entire time and it just felt good being surrounded with such positive energy.
I had a fabulous time bringing my out of town guest, Eva (who inspired my Labor Day BBQ dinner), to this event and I highly recommend others to check out the House of Blues for a unique and delicious gospel brunch experience which is available in various cities around the country.
If you can't get to New Orleans to try authentic Jambalaya, I'd also recommend picking up Zatarain's Jambalaya mix to make it at home. Customize it however you'd like and have fun!
