Alert ON: Phishers Use Malware in Fake Facebook App

Phishers frequently introduce bogus applications to add new flavor into their phishing baits. Symantec has observed a scam where phishers were trying to steal login credentials, but their means of data theft wasn’t with the phishing bait alone.

 

Their ploy also used malware for harvesting users’ confidential information. The phishing site spoofed the login page of Facebook and was hosted on a free web hosting site.

Alert ON: Symantec Security Response: Egobot & Nemim Blogs

Symantec has uncovered a sophisticated Trojan, Backdoor.Egobot, which steals confidential information from Korean companies and also executives doing business with Korea (including targets from Australia, Russia, Brazil, and the United States).

 The attackers will often send their victims a spear-phishing email containing malware that appears to be from someone they know (see screenshot above).
