Conor's Autistic Disorder Reality - School on Wednesday

[NMS+Shirt+1c.JPG]
On Wednesday Conor expects to be in school.

He loves school, which for the past 3 years has been Nashwaaksis  Middle School,  and it has been a good experience for him. Yesterday we had to bring him home early because he wasn't feeling well. Today, Wednesday, he has to stay home again but he doesn't like it.

Conor expects to be in school and not being in school today, Wednesday, bothers him ... a lot.  He is screaming some, crying some, and repeating over and over again "School on Wednesday, School on Wednesday, School on Wednesday". Some times he starts with Monday stopping at Wednesday:  "School on Monday, School on Tuesday  ....  School on Wednesday".

Conor and Dad Have An Unexpected Day At Home

Roads were icy around Fredericton today and the aide who works with Conor, and several others, were unable to get to school so Conor came home with Dad who worked out of the house for the day. After lunch we enjoyed a nice walk on the trail.

Conor Back At School

Conor loves school. He has asked for school all summer, literally from the first week of summer vacation. As the school year approached he asked for it more frequently. This morning he woke up an hour ahead of the time we had planned to wake him. He was a bit anxious and was the first one in the driveway and into the car to go to school. He was happy to get to school where he is shown waiting for his teacher assistant who worked with him last year and did an outstanding job.

By the end of the day, back home, the excitement was getting to him and he did some screaming but no self injury or destructive behavior. To some extent it was like the first day of school for any child. The autism was a factor primarily when he got tired.

Above with Mom, he has grown quite a bit since his first day of middle school last year.

Conor Is Ready For School!

I commented Saturday about Conor's transition to Middle School which will start tomorrow and the preparations that we have done to help him get ready. He appears to be pretty excited about getting back to school. These pictures are of Conor's handiwork yesterday practicing his letters and numbers.

The bananas seemed to need the number 4 on them?

Conor practiced his letter writing by tracing over the letters on his alphabet puzzle board.

One sample of Conor's printing yesterday, including a not so subtle message about what he wanted for supper. (Yup, he got what he wanted, and the KFC chicken was tasty!)
