How to Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 Untethered with Redsn0w

Finally the much anticipated untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 has finally arrived in Redsn0w 0.9.10b3, from the iPhone Dev Team and jailbreaker @pod2g. The untethered iOS 5.0.1 jailbreak has finally arrived, and the best part is it’s extremely easy to use.

Let me help you through the process, but before proceeding make sure you have the following requirements:

Compatible iOS device: iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 1, iPod touch 3rd gen, iPod touch 4th gen

iOS 5.0.1 installed (you’re your still on 5.0, just use iTunes to update your device)

Download Redsn0w 0.9.10b3 (Direct: Mac OS X or Windows)

Note: iPad 2 and iPhone 4S are not yet compatible because of their A5 CPU, that is a currently a work in progress. and it will not be long before we get the updates on this iOS devices.

How to Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 Untethered Using Redsn0w

Now that you have all the required software in place . Just follow the instructions below, its also the same for both Mac and Windows:

Launch Redsn0w (for Windows make sure you run Redsn0w in Administrator mode)

Connect the iOS device to the computer and then turn it off

Launch Redsn0w and click on “Jailbreak”

Put your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch into DFU mode: Hold power button for 3 seconds, continue holding Power button and additionally hold the Home button for 10 seconds, release the Power button but continue to hold the Home button for another 15 seconds

Last, let redsn0w do it’s thing, make sure you “Install Cydia” is checked, and let the jailbreak install and wait for your device to boot and that’s it.

To check if your device is working try to launch Cydia and start updating your custom software from Cydia.

Important: Please make sure you backup your device before doing this procedure. To do the backup on iTunes right click you device and choose backup.
