Short & Sweets: Robot Bash!

For those that know me, it's safe to say I love to party. Literally! Entertaining is something I love doing with family and friends But when I had Joel, I found the joy of entertaining to be even more fun with children in mind. My long-time childhood family friend, Jane, can certainly relate because she's done her fair share of children's parties.
Jane is the creative and talented baker/cake decorator of Short & Sweets. Based out of San Diego, CA, she has been creating some amazing celebration cakes for the past few years and she never ceases to amaze me. Check out her Facebook page for more photos of her work! Her most recent party extravaganza was a dual birthday party for her son (2) and nephew (8). The theme? Robots - and it was done with such detail! I'll let the pictures speak for themselves...

Here are 2 homemade robots, one for each birthday celebrant...

For this party, Jane had 90+ guests to feed and she came up with the great idea to have a pasta bar. Guests were able to customize their pasta with their choice of pasta, sauces, add ins and even sides. To go with the theme, Jane labeled each section and dish to fit the robot theme. So creative and well executed!
Robot Parts - A variety of pastas that guests could build on...
The pastas were named "Wires" (spaghetti), "Propellers" (bowties),
"Tubes" (stuffed rolled lasagne), and "Gears & Springs" (wheels and rotini).

Lubricants - So many different pasta sauces to choose from!

Upgrades - Meatballs, chicken and vegetarian 'meat'balls for guests to add...

Accessories - Guests helped themselves to fresh veggies, green salad and dressings...

Fueling Station - Refreshments were cleverly decorated to fit the theme perfectly!...

If the comprehensive Pasta Bar was impressive, the dessert table was beyond amazing. The table was overflowing with sweets with names in line with the robot theme. Jane did a great job coming up with theme inspired names for her treats...

Do-Bots (powdered mini donuts), Nuts & Bolts (sweet & salty popcorn mix)...

Micro Chip Cookies (chocolate chip, of course!)...

Cake Ball Bearings (Jane's famous cake balls)...

Smore's Borg (smore's sandwich style) ...

Cookie-Droids (disguised Oreo cookies)...

Fruit Bytes (colorful bite-sized fresh fruit kabobs) ...

Cupcake in Jars Favors (mini cupcakes in baby food jars)...

Robot Heads Goody Boxes...

However, the highlight of any party dessert table was the birthday cake. Complete with a scrolling LED message screen wishing the lucky birthday boys a "Happy Birthday", the Robot Birthday Cake took center stage as it should...

Jane's party guests were then entertained with a happy robot and even the kids had fun playing robot...

Jane even set up a craft table for the kids to make their own robots to play with and take home...

No one went home without a little favor. Aside from the mini cupcakes in a jar above,
the little ones under 3 years old all received hand-sewn robot pillows... too cute!

What an awesome party and there's no doubt her guests had a memorable time. If you're in the San Diego area, please check out Jane's Short & Sweets site and Facebook page. It's evident she does amazing work that not only looks perfect but is delicious too. And if you're looking for a fun theme for a party, hopefully this Robot party has inspired you!
