I am thrilled to announce that Life’s a Feast is a finalist for the Homie 2009 Awards in the category of Home Cooking, an award for the best home design blogs given by Apartment Therapy's The Kitchn. The competition is tough, so if you enjoy my blog, if you have been inspired in any way, inspired to cook or bake, if my blog makes you laugh or dream, then please go to the Apartment Therapy site and vote for my blog by simply signing up, logging in and clicking on the little dot next to lifesafeast.blogspot.com. Every single vote counts, every single vote is appreciated. Winning a Homie would truly be a fabulous way to start off 2010 for Life’s a Feast. Thank you!
FAVORITES FROM LIFE’S A FEAST
2009 has been filled with ups and downs, highs and lows, yet as I stand on the threshold of a new decade, I look back at the year that has just ended and have decided to start off this new year, this new decade by thinking of all the good things that have come my way in 2009, all the wonderful people I’ve met, all the brightness that has shined on me, at what can bring me forward, step by cautious step, into the new year with joy in my heart and a smile on my face. “Think positive!” the man would say, and think positive I must. So many fabulous, exciting things did happen thanks to my food blog, things that got me moving, helped me grow and become the food blog that I am today (yes, I am my food blog!).
So in the spirit of 2010, I would like to look back once more and share with you my favorite recipes, the tried and true that have been posted on Life’s a Feast since I started this little blog, my baby: the sweet treats, the comfort food my family asks for over and over again; the stupendous, luscious desserts we have fallen in love with, the delicacies made for special occasions when the Wow Factor is a must; the warming, wonderful dishes whipped up for our family dinners, truly the favorites turned to time and time again.
I also want to share some of my blogging highlights of 2010, the events that have meant so much to me!
OUR FAVORITE EVERYDAY GOODIES AT HOME
THOSE SPECIAL EVENT, ELEGANT, SUMPTUOUS, IMPRESSIVE DESSERTS
WHEN MEALTIME COMES AROUND
This has been an extraordinary year for this normally odd girl out, this shrinking violet. I have become good friends with so many fellow bloggers that it amazes me! What a truly incredible group of brilliant, talented, passionate and generous people.
I have been given the nod by a few extraordinary fellow food bloggers Meeta, Barbara, Nicole and AKM of Mudflats.
Hilda and Deeba, both wonderful friends, took over my blog when I was in Florida and offered Life’s a Feast beautiful guest blogs and scrumptious baked goods (Hilda’s and Deeba’s). I did a guest post swap with my friend Mowie (his and mine) and we had a great time doing it.
My Dark Chocolate Individual Bundtlets, my Keftas Wrapped in Filo and my Chocolate Cherry Tiramisu were highlighted on Foodshots. My Chocolate Meringue & Pecan Swirled Brioche Coffee Cake was highlighted on Food Porn Daily. My Apple Cranberry Brioche Coffee Cake headlined on Refrigerator Soup among other posts.
I was invited to join the impressive writing team over at The Daily Tiffin headed by the ever brilliant Meeta.
I finally gathered up the courage and joined the Daring Bakers (see the results here, here, here and here)
I made my very first macarons and then joined up with my dear friend and practically twin sister Deeba to create Mactweets, a blog dedicated entirely to our monthly macaronfest, that macaron challenge, baking macarons together amongst friends, now a proud 40+ strong!
I found my truehearts and sisters (Ottolenghi sistahs!) Deeba, Meeta and Hilda!
The seeds of an exciting and so far secret project were sewn with Kerrin and the first sprouts are now pushing up through the soil. And it all started with a mad, early, black & blue morning phone call from Switzerland!
And, maybe my food blogging highlight was being part of the amazing (and outrageously wild and fun) team – Beth, Hilda, Mowie and Meeta - that organized the amazing Food Blogger Connect in London this November and joining them and 50 other fabulous food bloggers for such a day, such a weekend. Staying with Mowie and Bruce and getting to know these two wonderful people so well, working with the stunning Jeanne to put together a truly fab speech with her on writing for a food blog and now also being able to call her friend, and spending time with Alessio, Sarka, Sarah, Oz, Pam along with meeting Claire and Kerrin. Wow!
I pushed myself to cook and bake what I may otherwise never have cooked or baked, keeping the oven heated up and the flames on the stovetop alight, thanks to my blog. I threw myself into yeast breads, yeast cakes and even bagels with much success. I pushed my limits and stepped ever so boldly over my personal line of safety trying new things and making surprising discoveries. I, often much to my family’s chagrin, baked and I baked and I baked. I did make my trash bin rather happy at times with all the yummy things he ended up eating.
That, my friends, is a year of blogging, a year in the life of Life’s a Feast. And without each and every one of you it just couldn’t have happened. I am truly thankful for you all. And I look forward to 2010 and all the excitement, the adventure, the friends and the folly that this New Year will bring.
