Insalata di caroselli or Cucumbers + Melons = Cocuminis: Try Them in a Salad!

Don't worry: Today on my table you won't be seeing the old advertisements that were shown as children went beddy-bye, but rather a selection of cucurbitaceae or gourds obtained from the crossbreeding of cucumbers and melons, which give life to a new variety of vegetables called "cucumis".

I will not be providing exact measurements for this refreshing salad; the number of vegetables you use will depend on the number of people taking part in the meal and how strong your vegetable craving is!
Carosello* Cucumber Salad with Cucumis
Ingredients: cucumis (they can be substituted with other cucumbers in case you are unable to find them in stores), plum tomatoes or San Marzano, onions (either Tropea onions, sweet red onion from Tropea in the Italian region of Calabria or red onions), salt and pepper, plain yogurt, extra virgin olive oil, basil
Preparation: cut the vegetables into slices and arrange them on a plate in a circular pattern, alternating them. Prepare the dressing by combining equal amounts of yogurt, oil and seasoning with salt and pepper. Pour the dressing on the vegetables and garnish with a few leaves of basil to complete the dish; serve! Did you know about cucumis?
*Note: Carosello was an Italian TV program that aired from 1957 to 1977 every evening for ten minutes; since the law at the time prohibited commercials during regular programming, Carosello showed a series of advertisements under the guise of short, sketch comedy films using live action, animation and puppetry. It was customary that the end of the program meant bedtime for all Italian children.

E voi li conoscevate i cetrioli caroselli?
