My weekly musings on Family, Food and Fun...

Family -
My parents flew back to the States from the Philippines earlier this week. I'm not sure how long they'll be staying this time around but I'm guessing at least through the beginning of the new year. Joel turned the big 7 months also this week and he's looking more like a big boy rather that the teeny tiny preemie baby I had months ago. *sniff* They grow up so fast!

Food - So last week I mentioned how I met with a restaurant owner for a really amazing opportunity available. That opportunity was to be a head chef for a new Filipino Tapas restaurant here in Chicago. Earlier this week I did a tasting event for the owner and some key folks so they had a chance to taste what I could do. It went really well and I got the job! After a few more discussions and negotiations, I've also been made a partner for the restaurant venture. We're planning on a soft opening in early January and once we work out the kinks, we'll do a grand opening shortly thereafter. I can't give out too many details yet, but I will soon. I know many people are anxious to get the details on where, when, etc but don't worry... I'll be sharing soon, in time for our soft opening! Another key thing to note is that Chicago will soon have their first Filipino Gastro-Truck once spring arrives. So stay tuned... I'd love to have you join me on my new culinary adventure! Aside from this new job and spending a few hours at the restaurant this past week, I spent my evenings dining out and attending some special dinners. The week started with a Don Julio tequila tasting... which kicked me in the bum the next morning. Wednesday, my husband and I went to a Korean dinner which was pretty good. Thursday was a Mexican dinner which was ah-mazing. I'll be sharing these experiences in upcoming posts soon just to share some food porn. But this weekend I'd like to relax and not have to deal with much food. I fear once I'm in the restaurant cooking away most nights, my love of cooking and baking at home is going to pretty much go away. I'm going to have to figure out how to maintain a balance soon!

Fun - This past week was ridiculously busy with being in the kitchen, going out to special dinners practically every night and just being surrounded by food and food related things. Don't get me wrong - it was really fun and so tasty! However the best fun I had all week was taking Joel to his first Gymboree class. We all went and had a blast, especially Joel. He got to meet other babies in his age group, learn a few new songs, play with bubbles, etc. We'll be taking him to a few other places in the next week to try out before deciding on a place for him to go for classes.

Have a wonderful and delicious weekend!
